I didn’t. I kind of assumed it was a mythical beast of some sort and then, of course, I had to drop by my dear friend Mr. Webster and investigate all possible definitions in the depths of his basement of top-secret knowledge.
In case that makes no sense, I was talking about a dictionary. Yep.
A Zephyr is a spring wind, said to bring either hope or doom, depending on the one who calls it. There’s something a bit romantic about that, when I think of sailor wives and their husbands going out to sea, where the women would wait and watch the sky. There’s always that classic image of a lone wife staring out into the wildness of blue sky and sea, the wind blowing her hair ’round and her face with some mask of expression that could never be captured in words.
Zephyr. I’d think that’s why they couldn’t put it into words, after all, if you didn’t know the word existed, then obviously you couldn’t use it. In addition, if you didn’t know it existed, then how on earth could you paint it? How do you even capture one?
I don’t know. Haven’t got a clue. But I do like the thought and I’m turning it over and over in my head.
Cheers to a great week!
Oh and a quick note (since I’m a bit lazy to start two blog posts in one night!) I’m starting up my 12 Stories of Christmas run again. Last year, I managed to crank out 7 original pieces themed to favorite holiday songs during winter break before I had to start the Spring semester. Some were light, contemporary pieces, others held a definite fantasy twist to it. It was fun, it was wild and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process, enough that I want to do it again. If you have a song request you’d like me to storify, I’m taking them from now until Dec 29th, 2011. ~_^ Let me know in the comments below!
