Which do you prefer? Lurid, fruity prose, awash in imagery and sensuous textures and colors? Or straight-forward, clean, simple prose?
This very much depends on my mood, while generally I tend to lean towards the ‘fruity’ prose, I love the little details, expressions and impressions of everything, when I’m in a hurry, I just want them to get to the point already. I don’t care how wonderfully written it is, I just want the bare bones and then to move on with whatever is next on the list. It’s pretty much a mood thing, because I read at a fairly fast rate and while the fruity prose isn’t necessarily a reading issue, it is annoying when I’m just looking for a quick read.
