If you read series, do you ever find a series “jumping the shark?” How do you feel about that?
And, do you keep reading anyway?

The Mandie books were like that (Lois Gladys Leppard) and the Flirt series by Nichole Clarke and the Night World books by L.J. Smith. I feel annoyed when this happens, especially if it is a writer I respect and admire. I want to know what on earth happened to them that they couldn’t keep writing “normally”.

In the case of the Mandie books, I read them until I couldn’t stand them anymore and then I quit. For the Flirt series, I read up to book five and then decided I was really wasting my time. I read the Night World books, but they were so cookie-cutter-ish, that after I finished them, I didn’t ever bother to read them again and have no interest in the final book in the series that’s supposed to be coming out soon. I don’t see how there could be anything worth reading there. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot were like that too, I hated how different they were from the movie (I watched the movie, expecting it to be like the book and was pleasantly surprised) after three-quarters of the way through the series, I stopped because the reading was just painful. Kind of like books by Judy Blume(that I absolutely detest) but that’s a whole different story.
